Fees & Rebates

Fees
Our fees vary according to the service provided and also the psychologist you see (Provisional, General, Clinical, or Senior Clinical).
Please contact us on 9069 3199 for further information about fees and rebates.

Medicare Rebates
Medicare rebates are available for a range of specified psychological services for people with certain conditions, as listed below.
To be eligible for a Medicare rebate, an individual must be referred by their GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician.
  • People with an assessed mental health issue - up to 10 individual sessions and 10 group sessions per calendar year under the Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative.  Referral via a GP Mental Health Care Plan, or a letter from a psychiatrist or paediatrician.
  • People with a chronic medical condition and complex care needs - up to 5 individual sessions per calendar year, under the Chronic Disease Management (CDM) initiative.  Referral requires a GP Management Plan and Team Care Arrangements (TCA).
  • Children under 13 years of age requiring an Autism Spectrum Disorder assessment - up to 4 services for assessment under the Helping Children with Autism initiative.  An Autism Assessment referral from a paediatrician is required.
  • Children under 13 years of age with a diagnosed disability requiring an assessment  - up to 4 assessment sessions in a lifetime (not based on the calendar year) for children with one of the disabilities specified by Medicare, including sight or hearing impairment, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Fragile X, Prader Willi, and William's syndrome.  A GP or specialist referral is required.

Please note that Medicare rebates are available for 2 parent sessions (where child is not present) per calendar year.  These 2 sessions come out of the total 10 rebates available each year (i.e. they are not in addition to the 10).  Beyond this, the identified patient on the Medicare referral must be present in order for Medicare rebates to be claimed. Parent sessions are, however, claimable via NDIS.

It is advised that you call Medicare on 132 150 to confirm your eligibility prior to your first appointment.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
We are only able to see clients under the NDIS if they are self-managed or plan managed. Unfortunately we are not able to see clients under the NDIS who are NDIA-managed.

Private Health Rebates
You may be eligible to receive rebates from your private health insurance.  Southern Child & Family Psychology are registered with most of the major private health insurers.  Please speak to your insurer to check your level of extras cover.

Cancellations
A minimum of 2 business days' notice is required for cancellations, otherwise 50% of the fee will apply (not claimable via Medicare). Please note that weekends and public holidays are not business days. Same day cancellations, or failure to attend an appointment, will attract the full fee (not claimable via Medicare). Cancellations can be made via email as well as phone/voicemail.
